Energy Assistance Programs

Wisconsin law requires all electric utilities to collect funds that support energy assistance programs for eligible households. These programs are generally available to individuals and families who meet certain income requirements.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration's Division of Energy, Housing and Community Resources administers the state's energy assistance programs for most utilities, including the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Even if your electric cooperative operates its own Commitment-to-Community program, you may still qualify for LIHEAP if you heat your home with electricity.

Weatherization Assistance

Wisconsin also offers a Weatherization Assistance Program to help qualifying households reduce energy costs and improve home comfort. Weatherization services may include insulation, air sealing, and other energy-efficiency improvements designed to lower energy use and reduce utility bills.

Priority is often given to households with high energy burdens, particularly those that include older adults, individuals with disabilities, or young children.
